About Irvine Beat FM

Short History of Irvine Beat FM

Irvine Beat FM was initially set up as a community radio station in 2009 and became a registered charity in Scotland (SC042902) in 2012.

Having successfully completed a series of trial broadcasts on Restricted Service Licences OFCOM finally awarded a 5 year licence to begin broadcasting on a full time basis on 12th August 2013.

The terms of our licence stipulates that further to providing a radio service with a wide variety of music our programming must have a firm focus on health & wellbeing topics and information to benefit the local community.

History of Irvine Beat FM

Off course at the very heart of the operation is a fantastic group of volunteers who generously commit their free time to present shows, work in the background in various I.T, production, support roles, and those who have taken on the responsibility of becoming charity trustees.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life and bring a tremendous variety of skills & qualities from their own work and life experiences. In short, Irvine Beat FM wouldn’t exist without them.

The daily business of running a radio station quickly swept us along to 2018. With a lot of hard work and high levels of continued support and commitment from our volunteers we applied to OFCOM for and were granted a 5 year extension to our license so it was onwards & upwards.

In March 2020 with the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic we had no choice but to close our studios down. Fortunately we were to be able to keep the station running albeit on a reduced schedule with presenters who had the equipment broadcasting from their own homes. We regard our ability to stay on air and keep our commitment to the local community on track as one of our greatest achievements.

Fast forward to April 2023 and we remain extremely proud of our accomplishments and just how far we’ve come. We very much look forward to celebrating the 10th anniversary of Irvine Beat FM’s launch on 12th August 2023.

Finally, with one licence extension under our belts we are delighted to say we now have confirmation that OFCOM has extended our licence for another 5 years taking us through to August 2028.

If anything, the last 10 years has shown us that we can never rest on our laurels and as ever the hard work from volunteers continues to obtain grant funding and secure advertising revenue to keep the Irvine Beat FM charity going and the music coming out of your speakers.

We are a platform for the local community in & around Irvine. We are here to provide a voice for local community groups and charities. We are a volunteer based project. Hey, we may not always sound as polished as other highly-paid broadcasting services elsewhere on the FM dial. But we are here to champion your group or cause when you need us. We are immensely proud of that.
