More about Chris…
Chris Colford (also known as DJ Chunky) is a well known DJ around the nightclubs and bars of Glasgow. He has DJ’d in many of the leading nightspots all over Scotland.
Here are a few questions Chris answered for us in order to find out a little bit more about Irvine Beat FM’s Weekend Breakfast presenter.
How did you get into broadcasting?
I started on my local RSL station in 1998, and have presented weekday breakfast and drive time shows. After a 10 year break from radio l was excited to be asked to join the team at Irvine Beat FM and especially love being on Weekend Breakfast, its more relaxed and a great way wake up.
Random encounter with any celebrity?
As well as presenting on Irvine Beat FM, I have been a nightclub deejay for over 30 years, and have met many celebrities, from Mini Me Vern Troyer, who l taught a very naughty Scottish word. Over the years I’ve worked with 80s pop stars Tiffany, Jason Donovan, lots of TV stars from Eastenders, Hollyoaks and Corrie and lots of music acts from the Drifters, 5ive, TTF, Blue, 911 – far too many to mention!
If you could interview anyone, who would it be and what question would you ask them?
I would loved to have met and interviewed the late Rick Parfitt of Status Quo, my guitar hero. The question l would have asked is about the Live Aid concert and how it felt to open the world’s greatest ever concert.

Music preferences / influences?
As a deejay, l have a very eclectic taste in music and love playing a wide variety of tracks. My personal favourite band is Status Quo having seen them in the late ’70s at the Glasgow Apollo until their recent Frantic Four reunion tours, my favourite Quo track being Whatever you want. Recently I’ve been listening to Jack Savoretti, and the new Rod Stewart album.
One surprising fact that your listeners may not know about you?
I have a massive fear of heights and I hate roller coasters, which is really strange because l love visiting Orlando for the theme parks and rides and New York to climb the Empire State Building – weird l know!
Sum up Irvine in 6 words or less?
Welcoming, friendly, historic, proud, resourceful, COLD.
