Trinity- Active Travel Hub
Organised by the new Trinity- Active Travel Hub, “Stroll With It” is a weekly group that meet for walks around various locations in Irvine.
On Thursday (28-02-19) we invited Kate Cuthbert, North Ayrshire’s Active Travel Hub Officer along with Jessica Gillespie along to the Irvine Beat FM studios to tell us more about the group.
Kate & Jessica were able to to give us a an insight as to some of the new activities that are planned for the new hub. The first of which is the walking group.
Stroll With It
The Stroll With It programme is the first activity to be run for The Trinity- Active Travel Hub. The hub will be located in the former Trinity church in Bridgegate ( the pretty church at the top of the steps). We have not yet moved into the building but we are hoping to open soon.
Funding
The Active Travel Hub has been realised with European funding awarded through Transport Scotland’s Low Carbon Travel and Transport Challenge fund and North Ayrshire Council. The aim of the hub is to get people travelling about more sustainably by walking, cycling or taking public transport. In order to encourage people to change their behaviour we will be running lots of activities aimed at building confidence and developing skills, such as walks, treasure hunts, walk leader training, bike maintenance skills, learn to ride and cycle skills training.
Get Active – Get Involved
“The Stroll With it” programme is aimed at people who want to start walking more, want to explore more of Irvine and want to gain some confidence.
The walks are being run on Wednesdays starting at 11 am. Most walks start at the Trinity, but in this first programme a couple of walks start at other places in Irvine but all are accessible by public transport. I have attached the programme to this email.
All the walks are free. The routes are normally on surfaced paths, are flat and are between 2 and 4 miles. The current programme runs until the 10th April 2019. However we are currently planning a second programme for May and June.
Volunteers
The group are looking for volunteers to help them deliver walks, cycle rides and to help out with other hub activities. Full training for volunteers will be provided.
Contact
There is no phone number for the hub yet, so if anyone wants to contact us they should email us at thetrinity@north-ayrshire.gov.uk They are still in the process of developing a website and social media pages. (Once the phone number for Trinity- Active Travel Hub and social media pages are live, we will update information on this article).
